Tesco Lotus aims for CSR leadership
Tesco Lotus has stepped up its community activities by introducing
the "Community Day" for its more-than 40,000 full- time staff around the
country, granting them a special one-day leave to carry out volunteer
activities.
This will allow Tesco Lotus staff to provide solid support to their
neighbours and make Tesco Lotus a CSR role model for other companies in
Thailand.
"For 17 years, Tesco Lotus has operated its business in Thailand with a
commitment to actively support our local communities. We have helped
our staff benefit their communities around the country with activities
and budgets. For instance, during last year's floods, our staff helped
many flood victims and the company made donations of cash and products
of more than Bt23 million,"said Head of Public Affairs Charkrit
Direkwattanachai.
He is proud of the volunteer spirit shown by the staff and said that
these activities show the dedication of Tesco Lotus to improve the
communities and country we live in, according to the "Rao Sai Jai Khun"
philosophy.
Tesco Lotus has also operated the "1 Million Hours" project for the
last three years, which encourages staff to volunteer their time for
their communities. This has been very successful with staff nationwide
giving more than 2.3 million hours of their time. Now the project is
being enhanced for further success this year with the announcement of a
one-day special leave to develop their communities.
By allowing staff to take leave in order to benefit their communities,
it hopes to instil a volunteer spirit and create tangible development of
communities. It also hopes to be a role model to other companies in
helping communities and the underprivileged.
Besides active support for communities, Tesco Lotus strives to show
social responsibility in four additional main areas: caring for the
environment, giving healthy choices to customers, creating jobs and
encouraging education, and buying and selling products responsibly.
